"OROU" in the Murut language is defined as "SUN". This itself reflects to the aim of this Community Based Eco Tourism Project founded by Mr. Richard Sakian Gunting who is a Murut Tribe Descendant, with the vision of bringing a new life towards the conservation of Flora and Fauna as well as the Murut Cultures which are slowly fading away.

This Project is aimed at bringing the Murut’s of Sapulot together to protect the environment and Murut Culture through a responsible and sustainable approach to address matters such as the depleting forests due to illegal Logging activities as well as loss of Culture due to the modernization and the young blood migrating to the city for income opportunities.

Be a Responsible Traveller

Be sensitive to your environment and minimize your travel impact. Follow tips and guidelines as recommended by us.

Never give money to children or anyone in the village unless it is part of gratuities or tips. Instead, consider supporting in sustainable ways by supporting programs and projects by the community or NGOs that work with them.

Consider your action before taking plastic bags with you. There may not be recycling facilities in rural areas and most of the time plastic bags end up in rivers and landfills.

Murut people in this area are mostly non-Muslim so rice wine is part and parcel of a celebration. It is OK to consume alcohol in this area.
