SANDAKAN ORANG UTAN EXCURSION

Enjoy a full day's sightseeing in the world's largest Orang Utan Sanctuary. Early morning, board a plane for historic Sandakan, one of Sabah's earliest settlements, where you can visit the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary. At this Sanctuary, young, orphaned or captured Orang Utans are gradually rehabilitated into the wild and offer an opportunity to see orang utans up close in their natural habitat. A boardwalk leads to a viewing gallery and feeding platform where the orang utans are fed twice a day. Lunch at a local restaurant followed by a tour of Sandakan, visiting to the Sandakan Market, Observation pavilion, Chinese Temple and water village before returning to hotel in Sandakan or flying back to Kota Kinabalu.

Day 1    SANDAKAN-SEPILOK-SUKAU (L/D)
An early morning flight takes you to the historic town of Sandakan where upon arrival, you are transferred to the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary to witness rehabilitation and rainforest conservation efforts by the State Wildlife Department. Lunch is a simple affair at the Sepilok Nature Resort before a two-hours drive to the Sukau River. Check in at one of the river lodges and enjoy a leisure afternoon before embarking on an upriver boat-ride to appreciate the many species of Borneo rainforest flora and fauna. This region is well known for hornbills, colourful tropical birds, crocodiles, monitor lizards, wild pigs, otters, oriental darters and more……. Catch the mischievous Proboscis monkeys frolic. These huge-bellied, long nosed primates with long white tails live by the river and are especially active during dusk when they are socializing, crashing through tress or foraging for food. Settle down for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2    SUKAU-GOMANTONG-SANDAKAN
Have a leisurely morning among the birds and insects before you return to Sandakan. En route to Sandakan town, visit the famous birds' nests caves at Gomantong described by WWF as "the best managed edible birds' nest cave in the world. Have lunch in Sandakan, then tour the historic town prior to your flight departure for Kota Kinabalu or drop off at your hotel in Sandakan.

Day 1    SANDAKAN-TURTLE ISLAND (L/D)
An early morning flight takes you to the historic town of Sandakan where upon arrival, you are transferred to the jetty and board a boat for the 1½ hours journey to Selingan Island. Designated as a Marine Park, the island is a safe haven for the endangered Green Turtles and Hawksbill Turtles. Spend a leisurely day simply enjoying the sun, sand and sea. Later, learn more about the turtles as huge females come ashore to lay their eggs. Then help the Rangers release hatchlings from their nursery. Settle down for dinner and a wonderful overnight stay at the island.

Day 2    TURTLE ISLAND-SEPILOK-SANDAKAN (B/L)

Day 1    SANDAKAN-SEPILOK-SUKAU (L/D)
Morning flight to Sandakan and be transferred to Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary where young orang utans are coached to enable them to return to their natural habitat. After lunch at the centre's cafeteria, transfer by road to Sukau. Check in at one of the river cabins. Relax by the river before embarking by boat up-river along Sabah's longest river, Kinabatangan with opportunity to view wildlife and birds in its virgin mangrove and rainforest habitat. Search for some of the primates species including Proboscis Monkeys as they settle down on treetops. Settle down for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2    SUKAU (B/L/D)
Wake up to the calls of birds, insects and animals. A 6.00am take a morning cruise up the Kinabatangan River and onto Kelenanap ox-bow lake for birdwatching and in search of other wildlife. Take a short jungle walk (if weather permits) and experience the wilderness of Borneo before returning to the cabins for breakfast. Free at leisure to explore the surrounding areas or nearby village. In the evening, boat cruise along the river to see the many species of flora and fauna of the rainforest.

Day 3    GOMANTONG CAVE-SANDAKAN (B/L)
Depart for Sandakan. En route, a brief stop at the Gomantong caves. Lunch at Sandakan followed by a short city tour of Sandakan before transferring to airport for your onward flight or drop off at your hotel in Sandakan.

TABIN WILDLIFE RESERVE

Tabin was declared a wildlife reserve because of the large numbers of wildlife and birds inhabiting its jungle, many of which are endemic and endangered species.

Day 01    LAHAD DATU-TABIN (L/D)
Transfer from Lahad Datu to Tabin Wildlife Reserve on gravel road. Journey takes about 1 hour. Upon arrival, register, unpack and rest. In the afternoon, visit the Lipad mud volcano located nearest to the Tabin base. After trekking through the jungle for twenty minutes, arrive at the elevated bare area of the mud volcano known to be frequented by deers, wild boars, elephants and birds. Look out for and identify footprints of animals. Those adventurous can experience the effect of the volcanic mud said to be responsible for fine complexion. After dinner, there will be a presentation on Tabin's uniqueness followed by night activities to look out for nocturnal wildlife and birds.

Day 2    TABIN (B/L/D)
Today, we will take a scenic walk to explore part of the route that leads to Tabin's core area. Here, visitors have a chance of seeing an undisturbed primary lowland dipterocarp rainforest and the opportunity to view wildlife and birds. Visit the Lipad's waterfall and explore the surrounding vegetation or just relax. Return to Tabin Wildlife Reserve in the afternoon.

Day 3    TABIN-LAHAD DATU (B/L)
After breakfast, stroll to the nearby rock pool or river side. Choose to take a dip in the water or simply immerse yourself in nature. After lunch, depart Tabin Wildlife Reserve to Lahad Datu.

This tour weaves through Sabah's countryside, scenic secluded beaches, villages, paddy fields, plantations and mangrove forest. Arriving at our destination, enjoy light refreshment with local cakes while mingling and learning about the local community. By 4pm, commence our cruise down river in search of wildlife and our main search the odd nose of Borneo - the Proboscis Monkey. Catch glimpses of macaque and the rare silver langur, occasionally bird's of prey like the Crested Serpent Eagle and White Bellied Sea-eagle. Dinner will be served by the river bank. After dinner, catch a glimpse of fireflies decorating on mangrove trees. Return back to Kota Kinabalu.

Located about 1½ hours drive (90KM) from Sandakan is the Beluran Town, with a population that comprises of the Kadazandusun, Tidung, Orang Sungai, Suluk, Bajau and Dumpas tribe. Beluran Town is situated along the Labuk River which have numerous river channels and tributaries offering an incredible opportunity to see a large range of wildlife including Borneo's unique proboscis monkeys, macaques, silver leaf, orang utans, crocodiles and different species of beautiful birds such as eagle, egret, oriental darters, hornbills, kingfisher including the rare bird of Borneo, Lesser Adjutant.

Day 1    (L,D)
Early morning, board a plane for historic Sandakan, where you can visit the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary. At this sanctuary, young orphaned or captured orang utan are gradually rehabilitated into the wild. Lunch at a local restaurant and thereafter you will be transfered to Legend Motel, Beluran. Check-in, followed by light refreshment. Boat cruise will commence at 1530 hrs to 1930 hrs along the Pagisinan river where you will watch and search for the wildlife available in this area. Return to Motel for dinner and overnight.

Day 2    (B/L)
You will depart for an early morning cruise at 0430 hrs cruising along the Labuk River to Biangkang River in search for the proboscis monkeys, wildlife and the many different species of birds. Cruise ends at 1100 hrs, lunch at Motel and check-out for your flight departure at Sandakan.

SEPILOK ORANG UTAN & LABUK BAY PROBOSCIS MONKEYS

08:00am - Meet upon arrival on MH2042 ETA 0740hrs and take a 30 minutes transfer to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. Orphaned and injured Orang-utans are brought to Sepilok to be rehabilitated to return to forest life. Sepilok is a primary lowland forest, a fine showcase of Borneo's remaining rain forest. Witness the feeding of Orang Utan from a platform in the forest. Watch the scheduled video documentary show at the Sepilok Information building. The 20 minutes video show will give you an insight of the Orang Utan rehabilitation process and its threats to survival.

14:00pm - Proceed to Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary, the journey via gravel road will drive through oil palm and orchard farm. This is home to the endemic Proboscis monkey. These huge bellied long-nosed primates live by the river and active during late afternoon when they are socializing. Witness the Proboscis monkey in their natural habitat when they come to feed for their supplementary food.

Transfer to Sandakan airport for your return flight to Kota Kinabalu at MH2065 ETD 1730hrs. (Lunch)
