2D1N Turtle Island / Sepilok Orang Utan / Sandakan City Tour

DAY 1 - Early morning, transfer to airport to board a plane for Sandakan (via MH2042

ETD0700hrs). Meet and greet at the airport and transfer to jetty. At 9:30 AM, boat departs to Turtle Island. It takes about an hour to reach Selingan Island which lies 40km north of Sandakan in the Sulu Sea off Sabah's east coast. Selingan Island is the main nesting area for the green turtles. A day of relaxation for you to swim or snorkel at the island. After dinner, prepare to wait for the Park Ranger to inform us of the sighting of a turtle laying eggs. Learn about the conservation of these turtles; witness the collecting of eggs from the nesting site, planting them in the hatchery and see baby turtles scrambling to the open sea upon released on the shore. Overnight stay at the island chalet, room with attached bathroom.

DAY 2 – 06:30 AM check out and have breakfast and thereafter embark for the boat trip back to 

the mainland Sandakan. Proceed to drive for about half an hour to Sepilok Orang-Utan Rehabilitation Centre where orphaned and injured Orang-Utan brought to Sepilok to be rehabilitated to return and fend for themselves back to the wild. Sepilok is a primary lowland forest; a fine showcase of Borneo’s remaining rainforest. Witness the feeding of Orang-Utan from a platform in the forest and later watch the 25 minutes scheduled video documentary show. Return to Sandakan, stop for lunch at local restaurant. 

At 2:00 PM after lunch proceed for a city tour and explore the various landmarks of Sandakan which may include Central Market, the most amazing variety of fresh seafood and agricultural products, Sim-Sim Water Village where houses are all built close to the water surface while observing the fascinating view of the sea, visit Puh Jih Syh Buddhist Temple which offers a panoramic view of Sandakan Bay situated on the hilltop of Tanah Merah. After tour, transfer to airport for your evening flight (MH3094 ETD1810hrs) back to Kota Kinabalu.

Day Tour Kinabalu Park and Poring Hot Spring

Take a scenic 2 hours’ drive to Kinabalu Park passing by villages and paddy fields along mountainous roads that wind along the Crocker range. Along the way, make a brief stop at Nabalu Market. Nabalu is a place where the local natives gather to sell local produce, fruits, home grown vegetables and handicraft souvenirs.On arrival at Kinabalu Park, you will notice the change in air temperature. Enjoy the refreshing and cooling air as you proceed for a walk along the nature trails in the Botanical Garden. If the day is clear, you may even spot a majestic view of Mount Kinabalu, the highest mountain between the New Guinea and Himalaya. Kinabalu Park boasts an estimate of 4,500 species of plants which include 1,500 species of orchids, 77 of which are endemic to Kinabalu. The park also supports 289 species of birds and 290 different types of butterflies. After the walk, depart for lunch at a local restaurant.Later, depart for another interesting wonder, the Poring Hot Spring. At approximately 47 kilometres (1 hour drive) from Kinabalu Park, Poring Hot Spring got its name from the tall bamboo plant that is abundant in that area. At this natural hot spring, there are Japanese baths where visitors can soak themselves and let the invigorating sulphurous water stimulate the body. It is believed to have curative powers. Visitors can also try the Canopy Walkway, where suspension bridges are suspended at the top of the tropical jungle. Experience the height of 41 metres above the ground and length of 157 metres. A 20 minutes hike is needed to reach the Canopy WalkwayReturn to Kota Kinabalu for an approximately 3 hours’ journey and drop off at your respective hotel.

MTTM-01: 2D1N Mount Trus Madi Climb

Mount Trus Madi, 2, 642 meters (8, 668 feet) tall is the second highest mountain in Sabah and Malaysia after Mount Kinabalu. There are three (3) trails that lead to the peak of Mt. Trus Madi; 1) Kaingaran Trail, 2) Mastan Trail, 3) Mannan Trail. Mount Trus Madi used to require high fitness level and determination to conquer it for its difficulty, but after wooden walkway & resthouse was constructed by Forestry department in 2015, Kaingaran Trails turned into the trail which can be conquered even by beginner. To reach the summit from the starting point, climbers will be trekking through 2.2 kilometers of  wooden walkway on the 1st day and continue 2.7 kilometers of heavily foliaged virgin rainforest on 2nd day. You will be fascinated by the beautiful pristine forest and welcomed by thousands of Nepenthes along the nature trail. One interesting thing to spot is the unique pitcher plant, Nepenthes x trusmadiensis—natural hybrid between Nepenthes lowii and Nepenthes macrophylla which is endemic to Mount Trus Madi alone.

Day Trip Sepilok Orang Utan and Labuk Bay Probocis Monkey

Day Trip Sandakan Orang Utan Trails

The centre attracts tourists and researches alike, giving them the opportunity to watch the orang utan up close in their natural habitat. A boardwalk which leads to a viewing gallery and feeding platform where the apes are fed milk and bananas twice a day at 10am and 3pm by rangers. Feeding time also attracts long-tailed macaques to the area.

North Borneo Steam Train ~ British Colonial Train Experience

Take a ride on the North Borneo Railway and relive the nostalgic romance of British North Borneo. Passengers hop on a steam train straight out of the 1900s, chugging along the tracks from Tanjung Aru, through Kinarut before arriving in the Rice Bowl of Sabah, Papar.  Along the way, soak in the green vistas of sprawling paddy fields, traditional village homes on stilts and buffaloes ambling in the distance.
