Day 01: KOTA KINABALU - KINABALU PARK (OVERNIGHT) (L/D)

08.30am - Pick up from your hotel in Kota Kinabalu and drive into the foothills of Mt Kinabalu. Weather conditions permitting you will have a breathtaking view of Mt Kinabalu from Nabalu, a local market and our first stop. Then we head for the Mesilau Plateau, which offers some interesting 4x4 challenges, especially during the rain. Lunch will be at Poring Hot Springs where you can relax in the natural spa. Overnight at Poring Hostel.

Day 02: KINABALU PARK - TAMBUNAN (OVERNIGHT) (B/L/D)
08.30am Depart this morning for Tambunan, through the back-roads… this can become very challenging as there are several rivers to be forded. Lush jungles, local Dusun villages and scenic landscapes await you. Overnight: hostel/chalet.

Day 03: TAMBUNAN - TENOM - KOTA KINABALU (B/L/D)
08.30 am After breakfast we continue on sealed roads towards Keninigau where we cross the Crocker Range again, into the plains of Kimanis. Lunch will be held at Beaufort before we continue to Klias Wetlands where you will participate in a river safari in search of Proboscis monkeys, endemic in Borneo. After dinner depart to Kota Kinabalu, where we arrive normally around 10 pm.

Includes: 4x4 vehicle and driver/guide, meals as stated, accommodation as per programme entrance fees at Poring, excursions as stated

Excludes: other meals, drinks and excursions than stated, entrance fee to attractions at Poring Hot Springs (Canopy walkway, Butterfly farm), camera & video fees where applicable, tips & other personal expenses.

Things to bring: casual/safari outfit (3days 2nights), walking shoe, hat & raincoat, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, swimsuit, towel, flashlight, personal toiletries.

08.30am - Pick up from your hotel in Kota Kinabalu and drive off the beaten track to the Kokol Highlands. The hills of Kokol offer breathtaking bird's eye view of Kota Kinabalu and the west coast, and the roads lead through rustic Dusun villages, hill rice-fields, vegetable and fruit orchards. During the wet season the roads can become challenging off-roading tracks. Approximately 1pm, we will arrive at the Kiulu River where we can swim and have our picnic lunch. On the way back to Kota Kinabalu visit a Chinese pottery factory. Arrive back in town late afternoon.

Optional: In Kiulu we can organise bamboo rafting (subject to surcharge). The bamboo raft of the native Dusun is a traditional way of river transport and in more recent times has become a popular competition amongst other indigenous sports. Bamboo rafting on the Kiulu is a wet but fun filled adventure that takes about two hours (after picnic)
